What are your date-night moves?

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Loves, do you remember that episode of Friends when Joey wanted to make Rachel feel better about herself and took her out for a real date? While on the date the subject of moves came up. Like the one when Rachel asks guys about their childhood to make them feel super comfortable or when Joey uses a shiny raspberry lip balm to make his lips that much more kissable.

Personally, I don’t remember having any special moves besides making sure that the person next to me feels comfortable and relaxed. For me the whole first-date-thing was more about being attentive yet chilled and getting to know the person than anything else. Most of my dates before Balazs were pretty standard but once I went for a meal with a lovely guy who was so nice that even afterwards when I got home he gave me a quick call to say how much he enjoyed the evening. Sweet, isn’t it? Especially because most guys love sticking to the silly rules of when to call next or not.

But wait, there was also a guy who totally blew it for me. He was so overwhelming with his constant questions that I felt like I’m on a job interview and I didn’t even get a chance to choose my meal because he ordered on my behalf. Too much!

So, how about you, darlings? Do you have any date-night moves? How about your boyfriend/husband, does he have any that you know of? Any fun or dreadful dating experiences you would like to share? xo

P.P.S: One of my favourite telly couples.

Moves... moves... I can't think of any that Shawn does specifically. When he kissed me for the first time though it was definitely making a move.
I was carrying a cake I made to the door so I could go deliver it and he was over, helping. We were just friends at the time so when he kissy-faced me as he was holding the door I just asked him, "What, are you gonna kiss me?"

He answered by just doing it.
Now we do the 'no socks' move. LOL

How sweet that he called you after the date. My move is to make sure that my lipstick stays on my lips not on the wine glass or my teeth. Ha! Before I got married I went for a date with a co-worker and he made me pay for the whole dinner saying that next time he will treat. There was NO next time. Molly xo

I had/have no moves, although neither does my husband, so when friends introduced us 12 years ago, I wanted to get together with him again so I told him I was throwing a party and would love for him to come. He and his buddies showed up at my apartment 2 nights later, where there was no party, but we had a great time anyways.

Our first date was for wings and martinis. Dates now are either concerts or early dinner, then drinks and maybe shooting pool. We're pretty low-key.

oh this is such an interesting post to me, I'm going on a 2nd date this weekend with someone I really like. It seems like texting has changed dating so much, and not necessarily for the better sometimes. It's sweet to get a post date text saying "oh I had a great time, see you again soon etc." On the other hand, there are the aggressively flirtatious texts too early in the dating process.

I'm a complete dork and seeing as how I don't really have any dating experience to draw from, I'm not sure I'll have any moves when I do go on that first date. It's fun to think about, though!

For me, eye contact is a HUGE turn-on while on a date.

Looking at your phone is a HUGE turn-off! xo.

While on a first date once, the young man took me to Superbad. He didn't realize how crude the movie was going to be and was utterly blushing the entire film.

Date movies:
Boyfriend and I went to Casablanca last week.
Any old movies (Roman Holiday, Charade, etc)
Pixar movies (Up, Wall-E, Rio)
Interest/suspense movies (James Bond, the new Mission Impossible, etc)

I wear glasses, and if it's cold outside and we're inside and I'm having a hot drink, I used to let it steam up my glasses with a sip or two. I'd act like I hadn't meant for that to happen. Guys always thought it was super cute.

CT Cupcake, I am so excited for you:) Have a wonderful 2nd date and I totally agree that there is a fine line between a sweet note to say thanks for the lovely time and an aggressively flirtatious text.

Such a good points, nicole.
Looking at the phone or taking a call is a big turn-off for me too.

I love Friends so much- will never bore of reruns!

Ok, so my move is really simple. If you want to be kissed on a date, just look at his lips. It's very subtle but when you are talking to him, he will notice your eyes flick downwards every now and then and get the message- I promise. It makes boys a little self conscious at first, but in a good way. Works a charm.
